The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk

For many years, the Yellow Aircraft A-4 Skyhawk was the most popular ducted-fan jet around. This kit was widely considered one of the simplest to build scale jets available, especially when compared to the other A-4 kits on the market. Since its introduction in the 1980’s, this model has seen many thousands of flights by hundreds of modelers the world over. This kit represents a tremendous value due to its unbelievably low price coupled with its great performance. In the late 1990’s, the kit was redesigned to incorporate more modern techniques and equipment. The inlets were shortened, and redesigned to make them more efficient at lower airspeeds. This resulted in a considerably shorter takeoff roll. The engine compartment was therefore rearranged, allowing the use of twin saddle tanks that could be located closer to the aircraft’s center of gravity. This newer kit is still quite popular, and can even be flown with smaller turbines. There are two wing options available to the modeler—a scale wing and a sport wing (with more area on the wing and stab).
